North Country Regional Offices

The North Country NYSUT region is comprised of the counties of St. Lawrence, Lewis, Jefferson, Clinton, Franklin and Essex. The North Country Regional Offices cover the largest geographic area in the beautiful North Country of New York State. There are three regional offices spread out throughout the region to cover the territory. The office in Watertown is located at 513 Washington Street, the Potsdam office is located at 59 Lawrence Street and the office in Plattsburgh is located at 14 Durkee Street, Suite 410.

The North Country region has one Regional Staff Director, seven Labor Relations Specialists and three Administrative Assistants. We also have one Labor Relations Specialist for the United University Professions located in our Potsdam office. The region has over 9,000 members in the education field. We are comprised of teachers, secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, cleaners, aides, assistants and various other titles.

Service is provided to the members in the region through one of the three regional offices based on geographical location and county. The Labor Relations Specialists traverse the six county areas providing a variety of services to the members. There are several conferences held yearly in each of the regions of the North Country. Our annual Fall Leadership Conference has grown to over 200 participants and is one of the largest gatherings of NYSUT North Country members.

In addition NYSUT has a strong retiree presence in the region. There are three NYSUT affiliated retiree councils with strong membership and leaders. The first is FSNUR, Franklin St. Lawrence NYSUT/UUP Retirees out of the Potsdam region. The second is JLCNR, Jefferson Lewis Council of NYSUT Retirees out of the Watertown area. And the third is CVCR, Champlain Valley Council of Retirees.

We are affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association. We also are affiliated with the AFL-CIO and are participants in the Central Trades and Labor Councils in all regions. There are three educators councils in the region, one in each area. FSLEC aka the Franklin St. Lawrence Educators Council meets in the Potsdam region bi-monthly. NERCTA aka the North East Council of Teacher Associations meets monthly in the Plattsburgh region. NCCCT aka the North Country Coordinating Council of Teachers meets monthly in the Watertown region. Every local union belonging to NYSUT in all three regions also belongs to one of the councils.

We also are visited  by staff from NYSUT headquarters representing our Member Benefits Department. These representatives are knowledgeable in the various offerings of the department and visit us to be available to the members in the region. We also offer teleconferences on finances and certification as well as a variety of other topics of interest to our members.
